Helping Hands For Kids supports the Kids
For A Cure elementary school program. Kids For A
Cure offers ACS cancer health tips, curriculum programs,
& activity-oriented empowerment to children who
are in the families of loved ones, have childhood friends,
and teachers battling cancer.
Luminaria will be a part
of the Kids For A Cure
elementary school program in 5 local school districts
– OJR, Pottstown, Pottsgrove, Spring Ford, &
Boyertown. Each school in each district will offer a
week of cancer education and empowerment designed specifically
for the culture of the school. Each school will send
luminaria bags home with the children to color and dedicate
to a family member or friend.
Luminaria are lit at dusk
at the Relay For Life of Pottstown on June 1, at Pottsgrove
High School. They shine through the night to offer loving
reminders in honor and memory of loved ones who have
experienced cancer. HOPE in the bleachers will be lit
by the children in the Kids For A Cure programs. HOPE
will be lit by children to offer all of our futures
research, education, advocacy, and services that will
contribute to a Cancer Free World. HOPE lit by our children
is a powerful vision of the way the world can be. Luminaria
contributions go directly to the American Cancer Society.
Carlos Fuentes Brown is a 7 year old boy who was involved
in the 2006 Kids For A
Cure program at Elizabeth B. Barth Elementary School.
As a result of this program and the generosity of Carlos,
the Dimes Make A Difference!
campaign has been developed to eliminate cancer. Dimes
Make A Difference! is being promoted in a 3 county
area and across the world through the internet.
Donations to this effort to supply luminaria bags to
each of the children in our 5 local school districts,
can me made on line by credit card or as a personal
or corporate sponsorship by contacting Wendy Zimmerman
at wzimmerman5@comcast.net
. Because of the personal and emotional importance of
each luminaria bag, donations are not credited to Relay
team fundraising efforts.
Together
we are making a difference!
